Reaching Deep Into Our Hearts and Pockets

This is one of the last images I shot in Chicago the other morning, and it might just be my favorite. Chicago has beautiful architecture and super friendly people - but like all large cities it also has a lot of poverty too. I took the image not because I felt sorry for the fellow sleeping on the street, but more because I respected his strength to survive and endure. I also shot it because of how it touched my heart and reminded me just how lucky I am to have what I have. I didn't wake him, but I did leave him a small bagged breakfast for him to wake up to. I think we all need to reach deep into our hearts and pockets to help strangers - it's good for us all.
