Community Couch - An Awesomely Cool and Iconic Sofa

Sometimes it's best to not always ask yourself too many questions like "why am I doing this?" - instead you just need to trust that the path of not always knowing where you're going will take you somewhere interesting and fun. A couple months ago I sat down with Shawn MacDonell and Patti Church and we brainstormed about a community based idea that would be fun and creative. Out of that meeting came the idea of The Community Couch Project! Pretty simple really, find an iconic sofa, take it around to various Ottawa neighbourhoods, invite strangers and friends to sit and interact with it (and each other) - and we'd photograph all that!

Yesterday we had our first outing with the Community Couch to get a taste of the process and it was so fun! We visited The Glebe, WellingtonEnd and Westboro - and we'll be visiting loads more neighbourhoods over the summer, so keep an eye out for us! You can follow the project on Twitter at @communitycouch, on Tumblr at communitycouch.tumblr.com and on Instagram with the hashtag #communitycouch. A super big thanks to Shawn, Patty, Kayla and Maija - and of course to everyone who participated with the Community Couch Project so far!

    1. That pooch was amazing. I couldn't believe how long he stayed on the couch and perfect he was at posing. More dogs to come :)

  8. Wonderful project! Similar to the Open Piano project that's taking the world by storm. It would be interesting to take the sofa down to the Byward Market on Saturday night where there is often trouble to see if the couch would create a peaceful and more friendly environment. I would love to see photos of that! Well done, you guys!
