Weekend Free Download - Roadside Drama

Yesterday I was lucky enough to 'back-road' it on my scooter to a couple of tourism shoots that I'm working on. Its so cool when you change your method of getting to a place, how it can have unexpected gifts for you - like this amazingly dramatic and painterly sky. I'd like to share it as this Weekend's Free Download. :)

"I Get to be a Dad" Day

Father's Day has always felt a bit odd to me, or maybe just the 'Hallmark' nature of the day. For me as a dad, it's a day like every other day - a day that I get to be a dad to two very unique and amazing kids, Claire and Alex. My daughter Claire has a heart like no other, and a smile and a hug that always melts my heart. My son Alex has a mind and a curiosity that totally boogles my mind and he has an insatiable thirst for knowledge that I am totally in awe of. I'm so immensely proud of both of them!

So for me, today isn't a day that celebrates who I am, but more importantly who I get to be. Today I'm humbly reminded I have the amazing privilege and responsibility to guide and nurture two amazing people, my kids!

A Brent Shout-out

It's been an amazingly busy period - shooting everything from imagery for universities, colleges and private schools, to custom stock imagery for an international company, to tourism imagery, to corporate folks of all types, to world-class classical musicians! Some days it's tricky to know which way is up or even what day it is. It's been fun and it's been challenging - but it's super important to say, I couldn't do it all with-out the support of Brent Gervais! He keeps me focused and organized - and he makes all of our files we deliver look so tight and incredible. He's an awesome assistant and an amazing friend. Thanks Brent!

The Fiddle and the Cello - an amazing and intense connection

As a photographer I find myself in some very unique and fortunate situations. The last couple nights I was fortunate enough to be photographing the National Arts Centre Orchestra in concert, and these two evenings were exceptionally cool because Pinchas Zukerman and Amanda Forsyth were playing together. Both Pinchas and Amanda are super talented, have dynamic personalities off the stage and are appreciated by audiences world-wide (oh yeah and for those who don't know.....they're also married!)

To move the story along I need to tell you that while I've been shooting backstage at the NAC over the years, I've noticed and appreciated that all the musicians have their own routines and processes to prepare themselves for a concert - getting their instruments and themselves ready to play! (it's really quite an awesome thing to have the privilege to witness) Last night Brent and I found ourselves backstage before the second half of the concert and after all of the musicians went onto the stage, it only left Pinchas and Amanda. They both were super focused and you could tell they were both independently in their own creative heads preparing. Then seconds before they went onstage, they found each other, said a few words to each other - then they touched noses and kissed. It was so so cool, heart warming and humbling! :)

So the amazing concert that the audience saw and the intense creative connection between Amanda and Pinchas they witnessed - was without a doubt the real deal!

Writing on the Wall

It was such a hot and humid day shooting for Carleton today - and such a great day photographing some really awesome research folks! A bonus to the day was being shown a really cool location for one of the images we'll shoot later this week - under the Bronson bridge where there's an amazing collection of graffiti! Thanks Julie!
