wintery last day

I've just been out shooting an abstract study of some ice and snow on a wintery last day of the year. As the year draws to a close, I hope your 2011/2012 New Years Eve is a safe and rewarding one and I wish all of you the best in the new year! : )

Merry

Christmas today was a very humbling and rewarding day for me. I've always struggled a bit with the meaning of the day, but there is no question - it's a day to give. Simple!

Just Another Day

Just another day? Far from it! I've learned from my own experiences and from the wisdom of a very wise and the kindest best friend that every day we get to have is an amazingly lucky day - a cherished gift. Today on the 20th I get to celebrate another day - a day to appreciate how lucky I am to have two amazing kids, a supportive family, and the dearest of friends. And I'm so fortunate that I get to make a living in a wonderfully creative way, collaborating with talented and generous people. So today is anything but 'just another day', it's a wonderful day that I'm very thankful for. :)

Happy Accidents

When I was working with the YSB kids yesterday, I was talking to them about rules and breaking them, as well as the happy accidents you often get when you do break them. For me I was always taught to not shoot into the sun, but it always gives such cool results - Yay for breaking rules! : )

Street Shooting

Brent and I had a cool afternoon working with some Youth Services Bureau folks, helping them finesse their photography skills. We're giving them a hand understanding not only the camera, but also the creative process and approach to capturing a story. A very cool and creative bunch!

Taking Care of Business

I had a relaxing and fun working Saturday today, shooting some new business shots for local Ottawa tech professional James Adams. I love when I get to shoot fresh new images for business folks - out of the boardroom and into some cool open spaces. Thanks James!

Zone5ive Chatter

I had such a cool afternoon, doing a co-chat with Clare Brennan for the Zone5ive OCRI folks. Admittedly it was a bit nerve racking working towards it, as I'm definitely not a public speaker, but once we were up there doing our song and dance it was so fun and the time just blasted by. Thanks Clare for the opportunity and push!

Inspiring Imagination

Obviously my blog is dedicated to photography, but perhaps if I were to really look closely at it, it's more appropriately dedicated to inspiration and ideas. So all the more reason to share an illustration my son Alex did this past week. Alex is such a creative and dedicated kid for his his young age of 12. It's so cool and inspiring to see his passionate imagination and his unwavering determination to do things his way. :)

Proud Mom's

I just finished shooting an awesome day at Ottawa's Youville Centre, photographing the young mom's and their babies and toddlers for Christmas portraits. The girls were all so nice and appreciative - and their children were all so beautiful! The Centre is such a great school, helping young single mom's finish their schooling (while having onsite daycare support for their children) so they can be more prepared for their future as young adults. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to spend the day with such awesome young moms!
