Creative Recipe

I guess over the years I've been mostly known for photographing faces, and I definitely do love doing that! But this week was a really cool challenge and experience - we had two long and intense days shooting food for an emerging frozen food client for the folks at FIFTY Strategy and Creative.

As in every really successful project, the coolest part of the experience is the collaborative team involved. And we had such a great team this week! Clare Brennan of Fifty is always a treat to work with, with his innate eye for detail and his determined sureness of creative direction and approach. Jarrah Thomas-Reynolds (also the chef at The Manx), our creative culinary maestro cooking and styling each dish for us. Cynthia, Jarrah's partner in crime who helped us immensely on our last day. And my assistant Matt who tirelessly wrangled surfaces, lights, mirrors, digital management, and snack and beer runs for us. :)

The point of the story for me is, it's all about the creative recipe - the right folks respectfully and creatively collaborating to help bring imagery to life, in turn bringing a client's brand to life - this week I believe we had exactly that! Thanks Clare, Jarrah, Cynthia and Matt! :)

WEEKEND FREE DOWNLOAD - HOSTA

I shot this Weekend's Free Download image, while on a long weekend walk yesterday. I just love the abstract quality of plants and leaves once they die and start to decay. They're just so beautiful!

Matt and I are filling our bellies and eyes with some great food photography with Clare from Fifty. We're also super lucky to be working with Jarrah Thomas-Reynolds - the Chef from The Manx as our food stylist!

Yosuke Kawasaki - the gentle concert master

If you've ever seen Yosuke Kawasaki (NACO's concert master) play, you'd know he is the most amazingly passionate musician - and if you ever get to met him in person you'll learn that he is such a gentle and gracious person. He is always such a pleasure to see play and always a treat to photograph! :)

Treasure Trove Sneak Peak

Clare Brennan and I spent yesterday afternoon working on our collaborative still-life study of prized treasured items. What's cool is that we both have a love for things that others overlook - so the series will be collections of treasured items that are found either in flea markets, discarded on the ground or items that have been passed down from family members. This image is a collection of regular items found in nature, but also items that would normally go unnoticed.

I'm really looking forward to sharing this series in the Yule Multi-Artist Exhibition on December 1st.

Creative Music

We had a great shoot last night with Yosuke Kawasaki and Jessica Linnebach at Galerie St-Laurent + Hill. It"s been a great series, shooting of a handful of the NACO's principal musicians around Ottawa, with Tim Jones art directing from Banfield Seguin.

Fall Impression

Today was such a nice crisp clear autumn day here in Ottawa. While out doing some location scouting at Carleton University I walked over this faint impression of a leaf on the pavement - I loved how the warm colored pigment from a fallen leaf had transferred to the cement, almost like it was brushed or etched on. :)

Photographing Amanda Forsyth

Today was a a beautiful quiet Saturday - coffee in the morning, a little grocery shopping in the afternoon.....and photographing the preeminent principal cellist for the National Arts Centre Orchestra - Amanda Forsyth! If you've ever met Amanda, you'll know she has one speed, and that's full speed ahead. She's beautiful, extremely confident and courageously creative - not to mention....... she knows a thing or two about handling a cello! When Amanda emailed me the other night and suggested the idea of hanging off this beautiful cello sculpture outside of the NAC; admittedly I wasn't initially sure. But after today's shoot, I'm so glad she suggested the idea!
