The Great Waterway Experience

If you follow the blog , you'll know we've been out shooting The Great Waterway Experience, along the St. Lawrence this week. The region is for some reason a somewhat well kept secret, but hopefully this project will help reveal some of the beautiful opportunities. There's historical and recreational things to do, pristine and beautiful scenery - and of course delicious food and super friendly people around every corner!

Pan Chancho

What a great place to start our day in Kingston - Pan Chancho. Super nice people and awesome bread! Pan Chancho has been a Kingston institution for years. Definitely worth a visit when anyone comes to town.

Lima Whiskey Papa

Okay....we're working on this super cool tourism gig for The Great Waterway's folks, and we're meeting some great people and capturing some of the great experiences you can have here. But how could we show the vast magnitude of the region or at least part of the region? Yes of course, aerial photos of the Thousand Islands! Great idea, until part of the deal meant flying and shooting with my door removed. Not Brent's door, only my door. Yikes! Well, I survived and we had such an awesome experience while getting some cool shots (a surprisingly affordable experience for tourists visiting the region), thanks to Ken from Kingston Heli-Tours!

Potential

I've experienced a very inspiring and humbling day - both are so good for the creative process and heart. I have the most amazing best friend who is always there for me, she is constantly teaching me about life. Today she taught me about the value of potential and that potential is nothing without nurture and support. An idea is nothing more than a seedling - and like a seedling, it needs wind to carry it and soil to nurture it. Thank you Debbie for being my best friend - an amazingly best friend.

WEEKEND FREE DOWNLOAD - FLIGHT

I shot this Weekend's Free Download a couple weeks ago - a cool flight-inspired deco hood ornament on an old 50's Oldsmobile. The whole car was beautiful, but it's the details of that era that are so visually riveting.

Bytowne Beauty

I just got back from an adorable film at the Bytowne, simply named after the photographer that the documentary was made about - Bill Cunningham New York. He's a street fashion photographer for the New York Times, who is quirky, super passionate and always in pursuit of beauty on the street. Definitely a film worth seeing!

The Great Waterway

Yesterday we did a super fun location scouting road trip for our new Great Waterway's tourism project! We went with the intention of better familiarizing ourselves with the offering so we could go back next week to shoot with more understanding and insight. What we ended up doing was really getting into the experience, which allowed us to really get to see what a cool region it is. I can't wait till next week, when we can really get our teeth into the project!

Jump

We're just driving back from an awesome location shooting day for our Great Waterway's tourism gig! Typically we just focus on chasing locations that we can return to and shoot (and we did loads of that too), but today we did our best to shoot our experience as well. Super fun capturing the kids jumping into the St. Lawrence!

Region 9 Adventure

Brent and I are heading out on a cool location scout today for a new gig we're shooting for the Region 9 Tourism Authority. And yes they have a better name for the Region - The Great Waterway. :) We're jazzed because today is just a day to do a drive to open our eyes to the region and get out there and make some friends. A super fun day!

Weekend Free Download - Fragility

I shot this 'Weekend's Free Download' a few weeks ago or so, out in Edmonton in my mom's garden. I love the fragile fluidity of the petals of this peony folding in on itself - almost as if it's protecting the tear-like rain drops. Flowers are always such wonderful examples of nature's display of strength, beauty and the fragility of life.

Governor General's Grounds - Another Time and Place

Alex and I poked around the GG's grounds this evening. I always feel like it's like stepping back in time to another era when I go there - or to another time and place. It was oddly eerie though, it was like we had the whole place to ourselves.

Arts Up

I absolutely love this colorful staircase in the historic Arts Court Building. Sort of Escher meets Mondrian!

Fish Friday at the Cat

I'm no foodie and this is far from a food blog, but tonight I had one of the best fish and chips I've ever had! I scootered out to The Cheshire Cat on Carp Road - it's without a doubt Ottawa's most traditional English Pub. It's such a cozy warmly lit space, full of old regulars solving the world's problems at the bar and super friendly staff who treat you like you're one of the regulars who have worn the bar down over the years. Oh yeah, and I finished it all off with apple pie that tasted like someone's grandmother made. :)

The Promise of Sunshine

Sunshine is pure - it's honest. It inspires and clarifies. It's always there, even when it's not. It's promising.

Weekend Free Download - Rockwood

This Weekend's Free Download was shot as part of a small series a few weeks ago of water weathered rocks on wood - Rockwood. I just love the veins of white rock randomly spiraling through this one.

Blumen Studio -Café and Floral

I found the coolest little café flower shop on Parkdale today - Blumen Studio. A really cool and simple offering. Mostly a flower shop, but the mochachino was yummy too. And the owners Kat and Nathan are super nice!
