Moonregular

I'm not sure if it actually makes me a regular or not - to come back to The Moonroom for a second night in a row. Maybe just a wanna-be Moonregular. A good start though..... they recognized me, same seat and table and they've let me plug my laptop in. And yep, super good music again tonight, a bunch of Archade Fire so far.

Moonroom Illumination

I love stepping into a place and being instantly inspired!

My friend Lee-Ann invited me to meet for an after work drink at The Moonroom on Preston, and wow what a cool spot. Not flashy - pretty simple really. Super cool incandescent and candle lighting - awesome music (Morrissey, New Order and The Cure), and Tracy the owner was terrific (she makes you feel right at home). Never had bacon wrapped olives before - or at least not ones cooked with a blow torch at the bar - interesting and tasty. :)

Dimanche Matin Café

Is it just me or does coffee actually taste better on Sunday morning? Maybe it's because we can just savor it and not drink it on the run or to help us wake up, like say on a Tuesday. It's just part of the morning - part of the 'not having to be anywhere else'. Whether you drink your cup while reading a magazine or returning a few emails or poking around some blogs, on Sunday mornings it's a drink to help everything feel just a little more relaxed and right. Enjoy your Sunday morning!

January

It seems that January's winter has finally come. The roads this afternoon were slippy with snow and the sky was whisked with soft blowing flurries. I stopped along the River Parkway to capture this bleak image of a leafless tree, almost unable to determine where the river stopped and the sky started. Yes, January is here.

Allan Gardens - A Closer Look

I spent a little time in Toronto yesterday, and while I was there I revisited The Allan Gardens, but took a closer look this time. It's such a beautiful and peaceful place - a lovely escape from the January winter weather.

Stay

It's so easy to get lost in an abstract composition. No beginning or end to it. Just layers of color and texture.

The New Year - Reflection and Forward Thinking

Well, we're all pretty much back to work and moving forward with life, work and creative pursuits. The holiday break always offers plenty of time to reflect over the past year then to map out a course for the coming year.

It's been an awesome work year for the studio - shooting for the universities and colleges, photographing dancers and musicians for the NAC, portraits of youth for the folks at YSB and The Youville Centre, planning and capturing various personal portraits, annual report imagery for the Bank of Canada and other corporate clients, a few editorial projects for Ottawa Magazine as well as many other fun commercial and personal projects.

There are many interesting projects ahead for January and February - more university shooting, a bunch of architectural interiors, photographing Pinchas Zukerman later this week, and continuing a large project for the Canadian Blood Services. I'll also keep shooting for Brownstock and for my continued personal projects.

The new year looks very exciting. Busy and creative! :)
